My name is Chris and I had Hellp syndrome and pe around 26 weeks, my
doctor didn't catch it on time and I knew something was wrong, I swelled
up and was throwing up, and itched all over for being so bloated. I went
to the doctor and said something was wrong and they checked me into the
hospital at 32 weeks for blood tests. The doctor came back and said my
liver enzymes were very bad and we would have a baby the next day no matter
what. He said I was very lucky to be alive and why I didn't come in sooner.
You could tell he was worried. They hooked me up to the sulfate and I
ended up with a horrible migraine and was still throwing up. They induced
me and said they would have a time limit, if I didn't deliver within a
couple of hours, they would do a c-section. With wonderful nurses sitting
with me the whole time, the next day I delivered a beautiful baby girl
at 7lbs, 5oz! (at 32 weeks!), they say I also had diabetes which wasn't
caught. She stayed in the nicu for jaundice and blood sugar problem for
only 12 days. I was put on bedrest for another 2 weeks. I am lucky that
I have my baby and that I am alive, unlike a lot of women who lose their
babies and their life. Doctors need to learn more about this problem,
so they catch it unlike my doctor. We also need to find a cure, or at
least the reason for this problem. This was the scariest thing that has
ever happened to me and my family.
