My husband and I tried to get pregnant for 15 months with no success,
so we started seeing an RE. We had a successful pregnancy with the treatment
of Chlomid, an HCG shot and an IUI the first month. At our 6 week u/s
we discovered that we were in the process of losing one twin.
The pregnancy went on as normal. For the first trimester I had spotting
for about 3 weeks. We believe it was from the other twin passing. I also
had morning sickness so bad that I lost 10 pounds. I had a 20 week u/s
with no problems and all growth on schedule.
At my 24 weeks appointment I had high blood pressure and found that I
was borderline anemic, but all seemed fine. Since I found I had high BP
I tracked it on my own. I was also having some swelling. By week 26 I
woke up one morning with bad swelling and a higher, but still normal BP.
I called the OB and advised them of my condition and was told to drink
more fluids. So much more that I should be peeing alot. Well, by the time
I went to bed, I was up every 30 mins with a full bladder. I went to work
the next day and felt better until early afternoon. I started to get a
headache and by the middle of the night it got so bad I could barely lay
my head on the pillow.
The next morning I drove myself to the doctor determined that they would
see me. I knew something didn't feel right. They checked my urine and
I was spilling 3+ protiens and my BP was 170 over 110. They advised me
to drive immediately to the hospital.
I suspected that I had Pre-e, but the OB's office didn't tell me why
I was going to the hospital except for lab
work. When I got to the hospital, they admitted me. I still had a bp of
170/110 standing, but as soon as I laid down my BP would drop. They did
a cath urine and no protiens were found. This was a friday. They watched
me through the weekend and I continued to spill protiens and had high
BP and swelling. I had a BPP on Monday (27w0d) and the baby passed with
an 8 out of 10, but we learned that my placenta was older and the blood
exchange was poor.
During the u/s we learned that the baby was measuring 24w5d. The doc
decided that I would be on bedrest in the hospital till I delivered. Wed
I had another BPP and the baby failed, so they decided to prep me for
a
c-section.
Within minutes I suffered from a seizure. During the seizure I dislocated
and broke my shoulder and then they delivered the baby. He was born at
27w2d, 1lb 8ozs and 12 1/4 inches long. At 2 1/2 weeks he came down
with a blood staph infection and a week and a half later it seems that
he is slowly recovering after almost losing him 3 different days. The
docs decided that they would give him decadron as a last resort. The doc
told me today that she strongly believed he would have died had we not
given him the drugs. Meanwhile, the story is running and the baby will
be 4 weeks old tomorrow, 2/6.
